Kinetico 4040 SOD AC Quad system resin and carbon change DIY

I have a 2006 Kinetico 4040 SOD AC water softer with PenTek sediment pre-filter.



I'm exploring changing the resin and charcoal myself, vs paying the incredible Kinetico cost of $150 for 30 minutes, and $50 for every 30 minutes thereafter simply to test the water and "evaluate" the system.



Has anyone done this? What was your experience?



Does anyone have written instructions / pictures / prices on "how to"?
