Condensate traps or lack thereof.

I see a lot of photos and a lot of talk about traps in the drain lines from AC coils, but in central Ohio it doesn't seem to be common practice. I've seen it where the pipe is plumbed directly into a sewer line but not if it goes to a floor drain or outside.

Is it better to have a trap near the evaporator to stop supply air from going out the drain?
